Walking through the “yard” (I use the quotes because I don’t know how much of a yard it can be without any grass) at GSU today there was some kind of rally/protest going on. It was kind of exciting being that it was my first in college, but certainly it wont be my last. Amidst the people I could see huge signs saying all kinds of things about what God hates and judgment and the like. Then on the other side I noticed people waving the rainbow equality flag and holding up signs about homosexuality and being treated fairly. As soon as I realized they were “my people” (as in Christians) I was a little disgusted. And honestly a little embarrassed too.

I only had one thought: Is that was Jesus would do? Would Jesus hold a protest and tell people all the things that were wrong with them? Continue reading

Why Are Hate-Filled Christians Everywhere?

wbcOnce again I’m sickened by the actions of people calling proclaiming themselves to be Christians. Earlier this week it was a Pastor from Arizona praying for President Obama to contract brain cancer and die like Ted Kennedy. Now it’s a Kansas based organization, Westboro Baptist Church, who is coming to Atlanta to protest and picket the American Jewish Committee and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (I find it interesting, but not necessarily of any importance that both churches were Baptist.)

I’m not angry that they’re protesting; I’m glad they take advantage of their constitutional right. Nor am I angry that they’re coming to Atlanta (where I live) to protest; no, I’m angry at the hateful rhetoric that they spew. When they come to Atlanta on September 9th, they’ll be protesting the American Jewish Committee, saying, “God hates Jews/lawyers.” They’ll also be protested the CDC, because, according to the Westboro Church’s website, the CDC is “fag infested” and because “God hates fags and fag enablers” so accordingly “God hates the CDC.” By the way, the church’s website address — GodHatesFags.com — very appropriate for a church, don’t you think? The Christian Discount: Is It Worth It?

business

Christians are, generally, horrible to do business with. Why? We believe we’re entitled to more for less. We think we have some kind of obligation to get  “the hook up” because the person or company we’re doing business with is our “brother or sister in Christ.” What foolishness is that?

Are you telling me, because we hold similar beliefs, I should give you a lower price for the services or goods I’m providing to the general population? SoI should charge “extra to those who may disagree with my point of view? What kind of sense does that make?

Would we ask for a discount based upon our political affiliation? “Yeah, fellow Democrat, hook a Democrat up!” Or perhaps because we’re both left-handed? Or we have the same views on abortion? Continue reading

Saved Men are NOT Blind

Blind Man

On Facebook, my friend, Chris, posted a note basically proposing that there were 2 types of women. You had the “Proverbs 31” woman, who may be all that and a bag of chips, but ain’t as fly as she could be. Then you had the “worldly” woman, who is seen all over the place. Fly, fine, and feminine. I had to make a comment and here it is:

Saved men are NOT blind. Men are visual beings. We all know this. The world DEFINITELY knows it; look at everything they put in our face. They’ve got the program down packed. Sex sells. Honestly, I feel like the church “asks” us to look past the physical in order to “find a good thing”. I will look past it, but I have to look AT it before I look PAST it. If the men should apologize for anything, it should be relying solely on looks and nothing else. Continue reading
